My Saucepan is an independent service (“we”). This page explains what we keep about you, why, who helps us run the service, and how to get a copy of your data or delete it. Questions: o.giesecke@gmail.com.
What we keep
- Your account: your email address, the name you give, and whether you confirmed your email. If you set a password we keep only a salted scrypt hash of it, never the password. If you sign in with Google we keep Google’s account identifier for you.
- Your cookbook: the recipes, photos, notes, ratings, favorites, menus and shopping selections you save, the web addresses recipes came from, and items in Trash.
- Recipe links: when you share a recipe, a private link to it. Anyone you give the link to can open that recipe, its main photo and your first name, and save their own copy, until you stop sharing it. Your other recipes and photos stay private.
- Searches and imports: what you ask recipe discovery to find, the results, and a count of the searches and imports you use each month, with the size of each request, to apply the monthly allowances.
- Activity: which actions you take in the app (for example signing in, saving a recipe or starting a search) and when, so we can support you and improve the service. We do not store your IP address, request bodies, card details or passwords in this history.
- Billing: if you subscribe, Stripe handles your payment details. We keep the Stripe customer reference, your plan, and its renewal or end date — never your card number.
- Invitations: the email address of a friend you invite, and whether the invitation was accepted.
Cookies and your browser
We use one sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 90 days, and a short-lived cookie while you sign in with Google. There are no advertising or analytics cookies and no third-party trackers. Your browser also keeps cooking progress, timers and unfinished drafts on your device; signing out clears them.
Who helps us run the service
These providers process data only to provide their part of the service:
- Render hosts the app and its database, behind Cloudflare’s network.
- Anthropic reads the web pages, photos and search requests you send for import or discovery, and returns the recipe. Under its commercial terms it does not use this content to train its models.
- Stripe processes subscriptions and payments.
- Google provides “Continue with Google” sign-in, and our email is sent through Gmail (or through Resend).
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
Your cookbook and account stay until you delete them. Activity history is kept for about a year. Expired sign-in sessions and one-time links are removed automatically. Database backups are kept for up to seven days. When you delete your account, we remove your account, cookbook, photos, menus, searches and activity; Stripe keeps its own payment records as the law requires.
Your choices
- Download everything in your cookbook from Account → Download cookbook backup.
- Change your name and email address, or delete your account, from the same page.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, a correction, or anything else about your privacy at o.giesecke@gmail.com. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
My Saucepan is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly keep their information.
Changes
If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and its date, and tell account holders by email about significant changes.
